Health Insurance Online Quote - How You Can Fight the Rising Cost of Health Insurance

health insurance

It comes as no surprise anymore whenever we hear people complain about rising premium costs of health insurance plans. Every year, people find it more difficult to afford premium payments, especially now that there are so many who are underemployed or even unemployed. Here are a few suggestions on how you can save some money with a health insurance online quote and get yourself protected from financial disasters brought about by unexpected medical bills:

1. You can try to save on your monthly premiums by opting to increase your co-payments whenever you use your plan for doctor visits. This works best for people who do not visit their doctors too often, but would not be economical for people who have chronic diseases or who may have to have major surgeries in the future. Higher co-payments may add up quickly for those who have serious medical conditions and who need regular medical attention.

Pregnant? Put Down the Cell Phone, Say Researchers

cell phone

Pregnant? Got a cell phone? Keeping it too close to your belly may not be a good thing, say researchers. Great, first the news on peanut butter and now cell phones? It's getting to be a pretty lame time to be going through pregnancy ...

Researchers from UCLA School of Public Health believe they've found a preliminary link between mothers who used cell phones in pregnancy (and who let their kids use them before the age of 7) with behavioral and other health issues.

While the risk is still controversial and more research is needed, their study indicates that it might be smart to use a hands-free device as much as possible while pregnant (just to be on the safe side--plus, you do it anywhere in the car, right?).

Parasitic Worms

Symptoms and treatment of worms in children

Parasitic worm infections are extremely common in children, and chances are that your child will experience at least one infection in his or her lifetime. Like head lice, worms are easily transferred from person to person through close contact with infected surfaces. Since most parasitic worms are intestinal, this normally means that using the same bedding or toilet as the infected person can expose you to the worms. The good news, however, is that worms in children are easily treated and rarely cause complication.

Types of Parasitic Worms

Children may experience different types of intestinal worms. Roundworms are 1 millimeter to 1 meter long and are contracted through contact with the soil in which the eggs reside. Pinworms are the most common parasitic worm infection and are also transferred by contact between dirt and the mouth. They are approximately a centimeter long and are white in color.

Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease & Oral Health

DENTAL NEWS: One of the most documented yet least known facts about oral health is its connection to diabetes and cardiovascular disease. According to the Web site MayoClinic.com, "Diabetes increases your risk of gum disease, cavities, tooth loss, dry mouth and a variety of oral infections. Conversely, poor oral health can make your diabetes more difficult to control. Infections may cause your blood sugar to rise and require more insulin to keep it under control."

Dr. Stephanie Bangs, a dentist in Fort Worth Texas, explains that the link between oral health and cardiovascular disease can be found in bacteria, the idea being that bacteria from the oral cavity can enter the blood stream via gum tissue and infect areas of the body.
